Through drawing and painting Brian Rush creates multi-layered narratives based on personal history. The narratives are loosely held together by a non-linear storyline or idea, yet no one single explanation is enforced upon the viewer. The intertwined processes of imagination, scientific discovery and their respective limitations are investigated in Brian’s work. Taking visual cues from diverse sources such as cartoon vernacular, scientific illustration and abstraction, Rush uses whimsy to drive a wedge between "facts" and creativity.
